Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Planboard

Planboard

Description of Site:

Planboard is a Web 2.0 application for lesson planning. The specific service it provides is the creation of lesson plans to specific standards. Teachers plan lessons using an online template and calendar. Overall, it is an excellent tool for staying organized. For example, you can click Tuesday using the online calendar and input specific lessons tailored to teaching standards you upload.

The website is completely free and I did not encounter any ads while exploring! Also, setting up an account was simple; I used my google account information. You can connect and collaborate with other teachers through the district finder. It is appropriate for use in schools, but it is designed specifically for teachers. Students really would have no need to use this application.

Educational Uses of Site

As mentioned in the description piece above, this application is for teachers. Its main purpose besides creating and archiving lesson plans is staying connected with other teachers. In a grade level team of 3 or 4 teachers, you could create original lessons and share. Conversely, you can see what your colleagues are up to through the share feature.

Review of Site

I have only started to use Planboard. However, I am fond of its basic features for lesson planning. Currently, on my work computer, I have hundreds of folders and lesson plans scattered throughout in a very disorganized fashion. Planboard would enable me to become organized and save lots of time in lesson preparation. The three third grade teachers I work with have their own systems for lesson planning. Even so, I would find this application worth mentioning to them because they would appreciate its features.
